The Montreal Canadiens have dealt Jack Nevins and a 2016 7th round pick for Torrey Mitchell out of Buffalo. As per LeBrun, Sabres will retain 50 percent of Mitchell’s salary. Mitchell adds to the bottom six group that Marc Bergevin has addressed leading up to the Trade Deadline.

Mitchell, 30, was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the 4th round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. This season, Mitchell has put up 5 goals, 12 assists, 26PIM and a -5 rating. The Greenfield Park, QC native has played in 442 regular season games in his career, posting 103 points. The Montreal Canadiens are his 4th team his career as he has played for the Sharks, Wild and Sabres previously.

Torrey Mitchell grew up a Habs fan, so this is a dream come true for the newly acquired forward.

Quotes from Torrey Mitchell (provided by Chantal – @Habsgirl4life):
– “It’s not much of a surprise to see a lot of guys leave Buffalo. Atmosphere was a little weird at the rink today.”
– “I’m emotional right now. When I heard it was Montreal.. I’m very, very excited.”
– “You go from being on a last place team to having a chance to win the cup.”

Nevins is an undrafted 6’2″ forward who the Habs signed to an entry-level deal back in 2013. In 32 games with the Bulldogs this season, he posted 0 points, 88PIM and a -8 rating. Not a huge loss for the Canadiens going forward.
