Looking Back: Habs vs. Bruins – Game 7

For the 9th time in the history of the National Hockey League, the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Bruins will need a seventh game to determine their playoff fates. Since the first time Montreal and Boston met in Game 7 in the 1951-52 playoffs, the Habs have came out on the victorious side five times, while it was the Bruins who advanced on three occassions. Let us take a look back at the beautiful history that is game 7’s between Montreal and Boston:

That was definitely a trip through memory lane was it not? Despite the Canadiens leading game seven’s vs. Boston historically 5-3 (including two of the last three), Boston has won the last one back in 2011 when Nathan Horton scored 5:43 into the first overtime period. What we can do now is take all this information, and put them together into one big chart:

1951-52 NHL Playoffs (Montreal Advanced): Habs lost in Stanley Cup Final to Detroit 4-0.

1970-71 NHL Playoffs (Montreal Advanced): Habs won the Stanley Cup against Chicago 4-3.

1978-79 NHL Playoffs (Montreal Advanced): Habs won the Stanley Cup against New York Rangers 4-1.

1990-91 NHL Playoffs (Boston Advanced): Bruins lost in Conference Finals to Pittsburgh 4-2.

1993-94 NHL Playoffs (Boston Advanced): Bruins lost in Conference SemiFinals to New Jersey 4-2.

2003-04 NHL Playoffs (Montreal Advanced): Habs lost in Conference SemiFinals to Tampa Bay 4-0.

2007-08 NHL Playoffs (Montreal Advanced): Habs lost in Conference SemiFinals to Philadelphia 4-1.

2010-11 NHL Playoffs (Boston Advanced): Bruins won the Stanley Cup against Vancouver 4-3.
