Has Wayne Simmonds Been Traded to Montreal?

Flyers’ Wayne Simmonds, Andrew MacDonald out for rest of season

Yesterday, Marc-Erie bouchard of Radio Canada tweeted that General Manager Marc Bergevin made a deal with the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Wayne Simmonds. Due to the holiday roster freeze, the trade wouldn’t go through until after December 27th.

Simmonds is having an impressive start to the 2015-2016 campaign. Throughout 34 games, the 6’2″ right winger has nine goals, ten assists for a total of 19 points and a -9 rating. With the absence of Brendan Gallagher, and limited production from the veterans, Simmonds could provide a much needed boost to get Montreal’s offence going. After this year, the 26-year old has three more years left on his contract with a reasonable cap hit of $3, 975, 000.

There are unreliable sites such as “GO HABS GO” and “LET’S GO FLYERS” that claim Nathan Beaulieu and Sven Andrighetto were the players dealt. That is merely speculation and as of right now, there is no information on who Montreal possibly exchanged in order to get Simmonds. Whoever Bergevin traded, if this is even true, hopefully it wasn’t a panic move because of the team’s recent struggles. It’s easy to want to make a big splash when pucks aren’t going in and the wins aren’t coming.

What are your thoughts? Would you like to see Simmonds in a Habs jersey?

UPDATE: Simmonds being a troll like Stamkos or…?

  2. Laughable. Flyers DO NOT need young defenseman !!!!!!! They have several a year or so away from the NHL. They need MORE players like Simmonds. They surely won’t be trading him for that package !

    • That’s why it is stated that those sites aren’t reliable for any information and that those names are merely speculation. The Habs wouldn’t want to give up Nathan Beaulieu anyway.

  3. Unless Montreal somehow takes Lecavalier, Umberger or MacDonald (which they can’t) there’s no way Hextall would ever do this. As a Flyers fan living in Montreal I can speak to the insanity of the French Canadian media and this is just them fabricating stories out of nothing.

  4. This trade would not be good for the Flyers; it would SUCK. Simmonds is the heart and soul of the team, besides “G”. Mr. Hextall, please don’t pull the trigger on this.

    • I don’t see Flyers parting ways with Simmonds unless the deal is significant and really makes sense. Wayne is a great top 6 powerhouse on the RW.

  5. Yes but, not if Beaulieu is involved in the deal in any way. Beaulieu will have a far better career than Simmonds. Simmonds would be awesome but at the right price. I would include Juulsen but not Beaulieu.

  6. Maybe Chip Kelly took over for the Flyers GM position. I would believe this rumor if so.

  7. This would go down as one of the stupidest trades in flyers history. I just don’t see it. Simmonds is on a hot streak right now so why trade him from a team that was having trouble scoring in the first place. I really doubt this is true

  10. Good comments,
I would love to see Simmonds in Mtl, I just don’t know why the Flyers would trade him, especially for that package. Yes, Beau could be a good defenseman and Gheto could be a very good Rw, but they are bets, no certitudes…

  12. All I can say is that the Kings didn’t know what they had in Simmonds until they lost him. Hextall has a long history with Simmonds and knows that he’s got a talented, hardworking and drama-free star on his hands. What’s more, Simmonds is a steal at that salary and is just hitting his prime. All that being said, I’m a Habs fan and would love to see him in the bleu-blanc-rouge. I just saw a pretty quick Montreal team fall to a quicker and more physical Stars team, and Simmonds would help even things up in terms of speed and muscle. Just don’t see it happening.

    • That is why the Kings have won two Stanley Cups since trading him and the Flyers zip!!

  14. Hextall would never be able to sign off on this because if he ever considered this trade he shouldn’t be allowed anything sharp to write with. When Streit comes off LIR, the Flyers will have NINE defensemen on the roster, 2 more in junior who should make the team next year, and only 2 forwards that would be able to identify an NHL out of a police lineup, one of them being Simmonds. This sounds like 2 phillies fans at a bar saying the Phil’s should package Howard, Galvis, Biddle, and a first round pick for Mike Trout. I guess Montreal media can dream this stuff up since they aren’t saddled with writing 4 stories on the hurt feelings of NfL running backs like they are in the Philly media.

  16. Send him to the Habs. Flyers can sign someone half the price to sit in front of the net and push pucks in.

  17. If this is true you must look long term. The Flyers are at the top of the salary cap. The cap may be increased next year and the Flyers may have there eye on a top restricted free agent. Let’s not jump to conclusions yet. We need a 50 goal scorer is what we need!!

  18. Sigh…it really sucks to have not only and gutless GM…but very stupid one as well…as in the case of Habs GM Bergevin…you need to fire the coach and clear out all the dead wood and go for serious high end Players…not Simmonds…my God!!!!

    • Merry Christmas to you to. I personally think Bergevin is doing a great job and Rome wasn’t built in a night he said a three to five year build was what he was doing. So I am watching the team grow . Thks Bergevin

  20. Flyers be like “hey, wanna take a good young D off another team for Simmonds? Then have to put him in the minors for the rest of this year because they are having so much trouble keeping Gostisbere up, who is about 10 times better… Then in the future, Nate can play on the Flyers bottom 6, because he would be their 5-6th best young D, pretty much wasting Nates talents”

Habs be like- “hey, wanna give up the future of our D for an upgrade on Gallagher, which would then harm Gallagher’s growth and really just screw up a lot for the future of a team who right now has no young guns in the world jrs”

This trade is bad from both ends. If Montreal wants Simmonds, the price will be much higher than that, Gallagher would be expendable for Montreal and would only be a part of what Philly wants.

Flyers also have 2 goalies who are on fire. Nuvy is one of the top in the league, any trade between these two teams would most likely be based around Montreal giving up Fucale or Tokarski (SP) for Nuvy….

Carey Price Deserves Better Than the Montreal Canadiens

It is needless to say that Carey Price is on a team that simply does not capitalize on his abilities. The Habs are on the verge of missing the playoffs for the third straight year. And while the injuries and bad calls are valid excuses for their current losing streak, there are plenty of errors […]
