The NHL announced the home openers for each team for the upcoming 2014-15 season. Upon first glance, the Canadiens will be participating in two other home openers in addition to their own. They will start their campaign on the road against the Maple Leafs on the 8th and then fly to Washington to take on the Capitals the very next night. Montreal will not be playing at the Bell Centre until the 16th when they host their biggest rival, the Boston Bruins, who will look for revenge after being knocked out by the Habs in the playoffs.

The Canadiens have suited up against the Leafs for their first game of the season for a number of years now, dating back to 2009-10. If you are a Toronto fan, you might be happy about this because 1) you hate the Habs and 2) you have done quite well against them in those opening games. In 2009-10, the Canadiens defeated the Leafs 4-3 in overtime but since then, the Leafs have had the Canadiens’ number. The Habs will hope that they can get back to spoiling Toronto’s season starts like they did in 2008-09 where they put up 6 goals to 1 at the ACC. If you’re wondering who was the star of that game, it was Sergei Kostitsyn with 2 goals and one assist.
