According to Brian Wilde – CTV, Lindgren remaining with the team until the end of the season will actually burn a year off of his 2-year deal. With several teams battling hard for the college hockey standout, it’s clear that Habs General Manager Marc Bergevin wanted to do whatever it took to get Lindgren.

“We are very happy to have reached an agreement with Charlie Lindgren. Lindgren was in our mind the best free agent goaltender available coming out of the US college level. He made the decision to join the Canadiens organization and will complete the season with the team. Lindgren is a top goaltender coming out of college, and becomes an excellent prospect for our organization, bringing some depth at this position,” – Montreal Canadiens General Manager Marc Bergevin

The undrafted goaltender only saw his statistics improve every year since his freshman season with St. Cloud State, which even then was impressive for a young player. Over the course of the 2015-16 season, Lindgren played an impressive 40 games for his school and putting up a jaw dropping 2.13 Goals Against Average, .925 Save Percentage, and 5 shutouts among his 30 wins.

With the help of having Lindgren defend the net, St. Cloud State University finished the season in third place in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) of the NCAA Men’s Division I with a 25-9-6 overall record. As a result of the tremendous season, the Huskies were the #1 seed in the West Regionals of the 2016 NCAA Men’s Division I Ice Hockey tournament. The Huskies went on to fall to Ferris State University 5-4 in overtime in the regional semifinals.

With the acquisition of Lindgren, the Habs placed goaltender Ben Scrivens on waivers at noon (Eastern) on Wednesday. Scrivens was acquired from Edmonton earlier this season in the Zack Kassian trade.
