Habs Daily Recap: Feb. 16th

The Canadiens were without Carey Price as he could not even take the morning skate due to illness. Montreal had to call up Robert Mayer from Hamilton to back up Peter Budaj Saturday night. Due to Mayer being in Montreal, Peter Delmas was recalled from Wheeling to the Bulldogs.

Habs worked on a number of things in practice, like face-offs and tips in front of the goal. At one point, Prust beat Desharnais three in a row in the dot. At the end of the practice, Kaberle, Weber and White were putting in some extra work which was somewhat of an indication that they would all be scratched yet again. Regardless of them not being in the line up, Michel Therrien did switch up a few of his line combinations. This is how the team looked going into the game against the Flyers:

Bourque – Plekanec – Gionta
Prust – Galchenyuk – Cole
Pacioretty – Desharnais – Gallagher
Moen – Eller – Armstrong

Markov -Emelin
Gorges – Diaz
Bouillon – Subban

A couple of other notes: Weber and White did take the warm up but were eventually scratched. Emelin returned to wearing a visor and after he dished out a big hit in the game, the Flyers were not happy and went after him a little bit.

It was a battle of the back up goaltenders at the Bell Centre with Budaj getting an “emergency” start and Boucher received the nod after Bryzgalov played last night in Philly’s loss. The Canadiens scored first and ended with a score of 4-1. Unfortunately they lost a number of players on the path to the victory. Armstrong got the puck to his face, Emelin was hit hard but did not go to the room, Gallagher was crunched into the boards and didn’t return and Pacioretty was hit in the ribs area; not only did it look like the post was part of the reason but the Philadelphia player’s skate came up in that region as well. Will find out more on the injuries Sunday.

The Bulldogs continue their winning streak as they came back in the third period to defeat Houston 4-2 Saturday. It was Bournival who would get the game winning goal but in the process, the rookie notched a hat trick. It’s nice to see them string a handful of victories together, however, they may lose a player to two depending on the injuries to Gallagher and Pacioretty.

The Canadiens will be back at their practice facility in Brossard at 12pm ET on Sunday to prepare for their Monday night game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
