Gallagher to miss 8 weeks; Scherbak recalled

This morning, the Montreal Canadiens announced that Brendan Gallagher underwent surgery last night and will miss a minimum of eight weeks with a fractured hand. This injury occurred after he was hit in the hand by a booming Shea Weber slap shot. Luckily, the fingers that were injured last year were not affected this time.

Gallagher had a good start to the season but seemed to be declining in terms of production in recent weeks.

Although he may not be producing as much as some would like, Gallagher is one of the few players on this team who brings 110% every single night. That kind of play motivates his linemates as well as the rest of the team. Players admire his tenacity and relentlessness. Unfortunately, his hard work hasn’t translated into points this season. Through 39 games played, the 24 year old has an underwhelming (for his standards) six goals and 12 assists.

Since both Paul Byron and Brendan Gallagher were injured against Dallas, Sven Andrighetto and Nikita Scherbak were recalled by the club. This is now Andrighetto’s sixth recall this season. He will join Tomas Plekanec and Artturi Lehkonen on the 2nd line while Nikita Scherbak is set to make his NHL debut Saturday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He will be joining fellow Ice Cap call-ups Michael McCarron and Bobby Farnham on the 4th line.

A positive to take from this injury is that Gallagher is on track to be back in time for the postseason

And while the injuries and bad calls are valid excuses for their current losing streak, there are plenty of errors […]
