Flashback: Gomez – McDonagh trade

On June 30, 2009, the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Rangers agreed to a seven-player deal which would send three on their way to Montreal while four would pack up and move to New York. This trade would be evident that the Habs were trying to add to their list of Centre’s and the Rangers would be adding to their defensive unit. Some would see this as a win-win trade at the time. But just under five years later, that is not the case. On that hot summer day in 2009, the trade looked like this:

MONTREAL CANADIENS ACQUIRE:

– Tom Pyatt

– Scott Gomez

– Michael Busto

NEW YORK RANGERS ACQUIRE:

– Pavel Valentenko

– Ryan McDonagh

– Doug Janik

– Christopher Higgins

Five years later, none of the acquisitions by the Montreal Canadiens are with the team and only one of the New York Rangers acquisitions are still with the team. Although, that one is making quite the impact. Let’s take a look at where each of the players involved in this trade are now:

Carey Price Deserves Better Than the Montreal Canadiens
