Fanhood of the Traveling Habs

Today I’m going to take a detour from the usual articles about the Canadiens as a team or the players as individuals. I’m going to write about the fans. I feel that I need to write a big thank you letter to all of you, especially those of you who came to Long Island last Saturday night.

You came by car and by the busload, I counted six buses in the parking lot. Fans of all ages; families with little kids, teens, adults from all generations. The weather wasn’t so nice, but that seems to be normal for a Habs at Islanders game. There have been two other snowy games during the last few years. An extra thanks to the Habs fan who helped pushed our car after the December 2009 game. That didn’t stop you, Canadiens fans filled whole sections at the Coliseum.

You came with enthusiasm. I got high-fived by some older fellows before the game even started and there was a younger guy high-fiving everyone who passed him after the first period. There were red Canadiens sweaters everywhere. Throughout the evening there were chants of “Ole” and “Go Habs Go”. The atmosphere was loud and energetic. I haven’t been to the Bell Centre (yet!) but on nights like this a little bit of it visits me.

I hope that despite the weather when you piled back into your cars and buses, the trip home was safe and as enjoyable as a seven hour drive can be. Merci and thank you to all of you. See you in Nassau next season. After that, we’re all going to have to go to Brooklyn.

GO HABS GO

And while the injuries and bad calls are valid excuses for their current losing streak, there are plenty of errors […]
