CHL Playoffs/Habs Prospects – Preview

Over the course of the 2015-16 season, there has been 5 prospects of the Montreal Canadiens playing among the Western Hockey League (WHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL), and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).

Unlike the 2014-15 season where all 7 of the competing Habs prospects were heading to their respective league’s playoffs, only 4 out of 5 this year are headed to the post-season. Matt Bradley and the Medicine Hat Tigers will be missing the 2016 WHL Playoffs. The 19-year old was drafted in the 5th round (131st overall) by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2015 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Bradley finished the season with 23 goals and 28 assists for 51 points in 68 games. He also had a -16 plus/minus rating and 35 penalty minutes throughout the season.

League Abbreviations
CHL = Canadian Hockey League (Umbrella organization that oversees 3 Canadian Junior A leagues)
WHL = Western Hockey League (BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Washington, Oregon)
OHL = Ontario Hockey League (Ontario, Michigan, Pennsylvania)
QMJHL = Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI)

Noah Juulsen
Position: Defence
Age: 18
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 185
Draft: 1st Round (26th Overall) - 2015 / Montreal Canadiens
Team: Everett Silvertips (WHL)
- Record: 38-26-8 (84 Points) / 5th in Western Conference

After being a first round pick, the blue liners statistics have surely dropped. Having said
that, Everett surely isn't having the season they were last year, but they are still a
playoff team. Juulsen slightly flew under the radar last year, not necessarily a household
name in Montreal prior to being drafted by the Habs. He showed some great offensive production
with 52 points in 68 games, a +22 plus/minus rating and 42 penalty minutes. This season,
that's not the case as shown by the 2015-16 season statistics shown below. Juulsen has a lot
to prove coming into the playoffs, as well as throughout the summer heading into training camp
in Montreal.

Jeremiah Addison
Position: Left Wing
Age: 19
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 189
Draft: 7th Round (207th Overall) - 2015 / Montreal Canadiens
Team: Ottawa 67's (OHL)
- Record: 36-29-3 (75 Points) / 5th in Eastern Conference

Jeremiah Addison was the final addition to the Habs' 2015 draft class, being selected 207th
overall. People who watch Addison would point out that his primary skill that he brings to
the table is a physical game. Although, his ability to generate offensive and his consistency
has continued to improve over time, most notably this season.

Daniel Audette
Position: Centre
Age: 19
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 175
Draft: 5th Round (147th Overall) - 2014 / Montreal Canadiens
Team: Sherbrooke Phoenix (QMJHL)
- Record: 24-35-9 (57 Points) / 5th in West Division

Assistant Captain Daniel Audette unfortunately missed some time earlier on in the season due
to a shoulder injury, but he came back and had a point per game season for the third time
in his four year QMJHL career. He was still on pace for a few points less than the season
before had he played as many games, but the former 1st overall pick in the 2012 QMJHL draft
has had a terrific offensive career in the juniors, despite the speedy forward's size.

Simon Bourque
Position: Defence
Age: 19
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 189
Draft: 6th Round (177th Overall) - 2015 / Montreal Canadiens
Team: Rimouski Océanic (QMJHL)
- Record: 36-25-7 (57 Points) / 2nd in East Division

Simon Bourque is in his 3rd season in the QMJHL, and his 2nd as an assistant captain on
Rimouski. He has continued to improve every year in points, with 8 more points in 2 less
games than he had lat season. He has also cut his penalty time by 19 minutes, although his
plus/minus rating has taken a bit of a hit. Certainly not a year to complain about for the
Habs 6th round selection.

Oh Baby: Thank You Bob Cole

Ask anyone across Canada over the last half a century to describe hockey, Canada and childhood.  Many answers might come back but only one would be correct to encapsulate a response that everyone could agree with: Saturday night, The Toronto Maple Leafs versus The Montreal Canadiens with Bob Cole in the broadcast booth to sing […]
