Carey Price Out with the Flu, Charlie Lindgren Recalled

With less than 48 hours to puck drop, the Montreal Canadiens announced that Carey Price has the flu and will not fly with the team to Buffalo.

Price isn’t the first player to be out sick. Paul Byron had pneumonia while Alexander Radulov and Max Pacioretty were also out with the flu about a week ago. Fans are quick to judge and Twitter absolutely exploded after hearing the news.

The theories that Price’s injury is still lingering is absurd. We saw Price play lights out at the World Cup of Hockey along with never missing a beat in the Montreal’s pre-season. However, he did get knocked by Nylander in that showing. The outrage coming from fans is understandable as they don’t want a repeat of last season. That being said, not many NHL players miss an entire season due to the flu.

I am confident that with a few days of rest, Price could be ready for Saturday’s match up against Ottawa or Tuesday’s home opener vs Pittsburgh.

Charlie Lindgren was recalled from St John’s this morning (officially at 5PM ET) and will be Montoya’s backup tomorrow night in Buffalo against the Sabres. He has just one NHL game under his belt and in that contest, he stopped 26 of 28 shots and clinched a win.
