The Canadiens announced earlier this afternoon the signing of Joel Armia to a two-year contract, where he would earn $2.6M AAV.

Last week, Joel Armia had filed for arbitration and it was reported that his date was scheduled for July 20th. Clearly, the two parties came to an agreement and can now focus on the season to come.

Armia played his first campaign with the Canadiens last season, after being acquired from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for Simon Bourque on June 30th, 2018.

He played a total of 57 games with the Habs; scoring 10 goals and tallying 13 assists. If you recall, Armia missed 25 games after suffering a knee injury early in November against the New York Rangers. Some would say he got his sweet revenge against that same New York team, when he scored his first career hat trick on March 1st.

As fellow AATH writer, Ben Fraser, wrote in his latest piece, Armia is known for his defensive skills, especially on the penalty kill. It’s always an added bonus when a team has players who provide on both sides of the ice and Armia does just that. The Habs and their fans will be looking forward to watching the Finn showcase all of his talent in a lot more games this upcoming season; hopefully building on his first year.
